Photographing "Birds of Paradise" is definitely not my strong point. However, this young chap has been trying to attract a peahen outside my studio window for the last two weeks without any luck, so I thought I should try some internet dating on his behalf. Non smokers with GSOH should send a photo in the first instance ;o)

Wow, amazing DOF. This is a really beautiful shot. It never would have occurred to me to do a peacock in black and white, but it works amazingly.
blackdog: Thanks Jewlya - certainly took courage to loose all that lovely blue and green ;o)
Please Mike, I had to google GSOH, I think I have a "Good Sense Of Humour" and I am a non smoker, but I think I pass on this one.....
This is a great bird, nice DOF and it seems it is giving YOU the eye, not too happy with you either. I do hope you will have a match for him before the end of the day...
blackdog: Sorry Astrid - was trying to stick to the format of the "personal" ads. Sorry we cannot tempt you - committed to the sheep, I understand ;o)
I think he thinks the world is against him Mike
blackdog: I think so too, especially with the racket he makes!
Sounds as if he's getting into a bit of a flap. richard
blackdog: Lots and lots of flapping - even Jenny Agutter (walkabout) would have been impressed. This guy is tireless ;o)
He looks like he was strutting his stuff Mike, but with no luck by the sounds of things
Oh well there's always next time Lovely shot btw.
blackdog: He is one of the young ones - I think he is going to have to wait until next year unfortunately ;o)
Brilliant shot - love the DOF. It's a shame he can't find a mate - if I was a peahen, I would certainly be attracted by his beady eye and fine plumage! This works really well in b/w.
Ingrid
blackdog: Thanks Ingrid - not enough to go around I am afraid. Maybe he will be luckier next year! Plumage eh! that counts me out then ;o)
Great use of DOF (see how careful I still am about how I say this). Very clever the way his own plummage provides the backdrop for the crisp head and shoulders portrait. Do peacocks have shoulders?
blackdog: Thanks Ian ;o) No, no shoulders Ian - all neck.
Great detail in this shot
blackdog: Thanks stephen ;o)
super shot and a bold move going to b/w but it works well. mal
blackdog: Thanks Mal - seemed a shame to loose all the lovely colour - but there we go. Not going to change now ;o)
Somehow taking a peacock in black and white is bit like taking a chess set in colour
blackdog: Great comment Bill - must get the chess set out ;o)
Superb shot Mike. The DOF is quite impressive!
blackdog: Thanks Richard ;o)
Cracking shot Mike - he's better looking than my ducks! Cheers, David.
blackdog: thanks David - he would probably settle for a duck now - but I see yours are a couple, I couldn't bear to break them up! ;o)
I beg to differ, photographing birds of paradise IS one of your strong points. I like the idea of its tail providing the background (as well as easy identification) very much.
blackdog: ha ha not convinced Martin - just lucky that he was so close and so absorbed in his ritual that I could get the composition I wanted. ;o)
lol, a peacock in mono doesn't make sense or so i thought
blackdog: You are right - totally mad, but I think it works. thanks Tim ;o)
I love it! A likey. The strong composition with the tail feathers leading the way for the fine crisp head.
blackdog: Thank you Mary - I did wait to get the framing right, but was lucky he spends hours strutting his stuff back and forth so just had to be patient ;o)
Can only agree with everyone else, but I do think the bird looks quite dangerous as well. Well seen Mike
blackdog: Just an act Les - he's a softy really. Thanks ;o)
