Was tempted to turn the tap on and have it dripping for extra dynamic effect, but decided to avoid the cliché.

A wise decision to leave it off, Mike.
blackdog: Thank you Chad - I feel sage like in my decision making powers ;o)
you could have a new photograph every day - with a brand new drip - and we could all place money on where exactly that drip would be as the shutter snapped it
blackdog: Sounds like a cross between a Chad project and spot the ball. Think I will stick to the lottery! ;o)
Very appealing tap! Good use of DOF, but I would have been tempted to crop a bit from the right hand side and place the post just right of centre.
blackdog: Thanks Ian, but we will have to disagree on the composition - tap could have been a tad sharper mind you ;o)
Very well balanced image with the blurred branches on one side and the tap on the other one. Nice and appealing picture!
blackdog: Thanks Richard ;o)
An everyday object beautifully captured.
blackdog: Thanks Stephen ;o)
very cool shot, I love it, so simple but so great
blackdog: Thank you Chantal - have a great week end ;o)
Lovely tones and image
blackdog: Thank you ;o)
So obvious and yet such a complete image ... and the piece of wire is that special ingredient. richard
blackdog: Thanks Richard - glad it hit the spot and pleased you spotted the fantastic engineering solution. Although this isn't my handiwork, I was introduced to the wonders of baling twine at an early age and have never looked back.
Good to see you still hitting the spot Mike. Great use of DOF and nice tone. David.
blackdog: Thanks David - glad you liked it.
This has something of a naive painting about it. Nicely done! Could use slightly more DOF to keep the faucet in focus as that rather than the post seems to be the intended focus.
blackdog: You are right about the tap - overdid it in my determination to get a crisp outline for the post! Will have another go ;o)
Mike, I am amazed by this shot, the DOF is great, do you know what I like the best, that little nail and that the faucet is fixed with that tiny iron wire....my son is in this kind of installing, (now he is only drawing the sytems in autocad on the computer) but if he would install tabs in this way
blackdog: Hi Astrid - Thank you ;o) Yes it requires a special kind of engineer to install things with precision equipment like this. I am a specialist at making do as well ;o)
I remember my grandad stapling a tap with wire, but also used a piece of orange baling string as a back up. I never really saw the sense in it but who am I to question a wise man!!
Love the conversion and DOF
blackdog: Clearly a man for both belt and braces ;o)
Was it something on the left, Mike, that you chose a central composition? Just trying to follow your thoughts, as the shot seems unbalanced to me. Otherwise, it's great, and the slightly out of focus tap doesn't bother me a bit, as the post steals the show.

blackdog: I was struggling to get the tap against the dark portion of the wall, which accounts for the odd composition. After living with the shot for a few days, I now agree I should have cropped some off the RHS. Thanks for the feedback ;o)
A lot of character there! I like the effect of b&w with that blurred background.
blackdog: Thank you Monica ;o)
Excellent!
blackdog: Thank you ;o)
You did the right thing Blackers - but I wish you'd just all ed a tap
blackdog: Taken me this long to decipher your comment - you wished I had called it a tap! I just love the sound of the word Faucet though ;o)
I confess I would have turned the tap on!!!
blackdog: No surprises there then Bill ;o) ;o)
Nice use of centering while also creating imbalance in the photo.
blackdog: Thanks Jewlya ;o)
