Thiis is the first of five portraits I will post over the next few weeks. The approach I used is not original but would rather explain and give the source for the idea at the end.

I quite like the way this looks almost like a pencil drawing, but I'm not sure about the area of shadow behind her head.
I'm not normally a fan of high key work but I love this portrait - it evokes a very bittersweet mood, but that's probably because I remember the time you took these.

I'm trying to draw a connection between this image and Arvo Part music, but having hard time doing so. Is that a subtlety of tones that you refer to?
blackdog: They were listening to Für Alina, a piece for piano from 1976, whilst I took the photographs. ;o)
Well all I can say is I like it.

I quite like it Mike. She seems to be in her dreams and we can fell it strongly!
Yes, I was wondering about the title too, having listened to a bit of Arvo Part over the years. So this is called 'high-key' is it? Interesting approach - a bit of a departure for you, although I remember the dice and the playing cards.

Yes the dice/cards would also be "high key"
I don't know anything about high key but I do know I like it
Lost in her thoughts and the portrait is beautiful Mike. I like the effect
I like this one Mike. Lost in thoughts...
I'm not sure about this Mike, but I don't know quite why.

I googled again Mike.... I just love the soft tones and the look of the lady....so different than what I am used of you, but that is the most interesting.
Quite different from your usual style. I like it. It makes the viewer pay attention.
I am not sure what to make of this, Mike, or even if i like it. I think I will need to see more to form an opinion.
A bit pale but quite effective Mike
hmmm interesting Mike and i look forward to the rest
