Yes those are the natural colour of the eyes.
A mask is an artefact normally worn on the face, typically for protection, concealment, performance, or amusement. Masks have been used since antiquity for both ceremonial and practical purposes.

Is this entapped person someone who wishes to be seen or someone who wishes not to be? A finely balanced piece of pictorial enigma.
blackdog: thanks Chris. She is Persian and brought the mask with her - I think she had her own agenda for this dipiction.
Quite disturbing somehow. I have a candidate for this touch of colour treatment, but I couldn't work out how to do it. Any tips?
blackdog: Will call to give you some hints, too much to type out. ;o)
WOW! That is some kind of eerie, Mike. It's like an animal!
blackdog: I am not sure she would agree, but you are right it does have a hunted look to it - much more expressive than the B%W photos I took.
A very original image. It is a good idea, Mike!
completely unnerving. the more so because the rest of the face is undetectable.
blackdog: Exactly Jude - going to do some more with masks.
The eyes are a tad scarey looking through the mask. Nice capture Mike.
blackdog: Thanks Tracy - kind of makes you feel like you are being watched?
I would have said the same comment as "choses vues" it's very DADA ou Man Ray likes! love it
blackdog: Merci tellement - j'aime Man Ray trés beaucoup, I suis heureux d'être associé à son travail surrealiste ;o)
Expressive, emotional photo. Reminds me of my "Trapped." Wondering when you took this..recently?
blackdog: Took it in 2000 - she is Persian and brought the mask with her to the shoot. I was taking conventional B&W film, but took this one with an early digital camera 2m pixels, hence the sketchy edges. Will have a look for your image ;o)
A little disturbing, just who is behind the mask one asks. Good image.
blackdog: a Persian girl ;o) thanks Les
A very good mask and well captured here, Mike.
blackdog: Mask was her work - I can only take credit for the capture and treatment. Masks are interesting tho' and would like to work with more. Have seen some fantastic antique ones in an old shop in Bath. The homemade is probably more appealing tho'.
bel effet! la momie Tout en carton
blackdog: Puisque l'aspect des larmes dans le carton ondulé pour la masque, la momie s'est réveillée. Attention!!! ;o)
Very original and rather disturbing image. Really well done. (:o)
blackdog: Thanks Rosalyn - welcome to my weird and wonderful world - even more disturbing when you know she is Persian and the mask was her choice!
The slightly soft rendition increases the impact and adds to the intrigue. Wonderful idea Mike - whosever it was. David.
blackdog: Lets call it a collaboration ;o) got my photo book back from the printers today 80 pages for under £15. Quality very good apart from a few pages that have a streak of slightly lighter black ink. Looks good enough to give them a chamce to fix it and will buy a dozen for xmas presents. Well worth considering for your Paddy's Hole shots if you are interested. I'd buy one ;o)
This is very enigmatic - I like the ambiguity of the image. Is she a prisoner or is she spying on is? The selective colour works extremely well in this case - tremendous eye colour.
Ingrid
blackdog: Thank you Ingrid - could be either, the eyes do look very accusing tho'.

It's all a bit Hannibal Lecter! Nice eyes though.
blackdog: Don't think "horror" was in her mind - it wasn't a frivolous choice to have a mask, more of a statement about culture I think. Lovely eyes.
The eyes give the picture something eerie. It's very thought provoking shot.
blackdog: Thank you Scarlet, I agree - certainly made me see her in a different light.
Bonsoir,
Well done effect..great idea..Bravo!
blackdog: Merci beaucoup. ;o)
in some american states they have anti-mask laws.
it's claimed that the laws are in place to deal with the klu klax klan etc. But in the 60s the anti-mask laws were used to arrest and intimidate drag queens.
blackdog: Only serves to increase my curiosity - will have to do some research. thanks for the visit and comment Russell.
Real creepy mike!
blackdog: Thanks ChaCha
WOW, my favourite!!
